Selena

She broke through the barriers of the music industry as a singer, performer and designer. Her dual character as a Mexican American performer was traditional and contemporary. She helped bring Tejano to mainstream fame through her ingenuity. Similar to how most people grieve a celebrity who died too young, her death was untimely and shattered an energizing career. In the following years, the fans became motivated to do their best to ensure that Selena's accomplishments would not go unnoticed. The death of Selena triggered an emotional response within the Latino culture that can be similar to Elvis Presley, and John Lennon. Selena was a wildly loved Latino singer throughout North America. Her music transcended cultural barriers and touched the hearts of both young people and older adults. Selena might have been described by many as the Latina Madonna, but she's still an excellent example to follow. Selena's off-stage family values and her participation in AIDS awareness programs provide a great example.
